I'm the mega-geek in my doctoral program, and have been asked to teach them more about how to use Google's features tomorrow evening (5/11). I know about things like Scholar and News and Froogle (which many of them have not heard of) but I have not figured out how to find a good overview handout about the wonders of all Googles features (especially those for researchers). My fellow students and I are in Seattle University's Educational Leadership doctoral program. And - I just found this section and wanted to try it out! |

melissa... There exists no finer guide to the use of Google and its various components and unique features than The Google Guide, authored by Nancy Blachman, who utilized Google Answers in the creation of her elegant and very comprehensive website: http://www.googleguide.com The table of contents page will give you a good overview of what topics are covered: http://www.googleguide.com/toc.html Scroll down to Part III, Special Tools, for components other than the Google search function. Note the Printable versions of the different sections of her site (near the top), many of which are available in PDF format. Please do give credit to Nancy Blachman in your presentation. http://www.googleguide.com/license.html Here are questions she posed on Google Answers, in refining the Guide: http://answers.google.com/answers/search?q=nancyb-ga&qtype=all&btnG=Google+Search I could go on and on about the many excellent pages on this site, but the sooner you get this answer, the better. I think the Table of Contents page is a good representation of how much excellent content is there. Please do not rate this answer until you are satisfied that the answer cannot be improved upon by way of a dialog established through the "Request for Clarification" process. A user's guide on this topic is on skermit-ga's site, here: http://www.christopherwu.net/google_answers/answer_guide.html#how_clarify sublime1-ga |

Thanks enormously - they think I am a 1337 uber geek (not that a bunch of grad students would know 1337 - I'm learning it from my teenager) |

Melissa -- At the graduate student level they should understand what Google DOES NOT cover. Here's a good Google Answer covering part of that topic -- the Invisible Web: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=423617 Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |
