A student believes that the average grade on the stats final exam is
87. A sample of 36 final exams is taken. The average grade in the
sample is 83.96 with a std dev of 12.

a) state the null & alternative hypothesis.
b) Using a standardized test statistic, test the hypothesis at the 5%
level of significance.
c) Compute the P-value

No they are not - they are study questions in preparation for a test. 
As you can see by my previous posts - I'm attempting to work out the
answers at the same time.  I was using the responses as validation of
my work and as question by question tutoring...

To further clarify - my instructor has indicated that questions of
these types might be on the final but it up to us to do the work to
solve them. There is no collection of these problems by the teacher or
credit for doing them. I'm simply trying to be as prepared as
possible.

Thanks for the help..here are the answers I calculated. I did not use
the website but instead used Excel..

a) Ho: u = 87
   Ha: u <> 87

b) Test statistic is -1.52 with Z of .4357

c) P value is .128511

-1.52 < -.4357 so Ho is rejected..
