I am having trouble getting a Windows 2000 pro computer with a new Linksys WMP54G wireless network card and a Windows XP Pro hard-wired computer to see each other in a network. I am using a Linksys WRT54GS hub. The XP computers -two others- can see each other. Is there a setting in the 2000 OS that will allow it to see an XP OS? unit? |

With the version of 2000 that Im running, it was setup as so that no other computer could see it. Go into Windows Explorer and in the address bar, type in "\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" where the "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" would be the ip address of the 2000 computer. Also have a folder shared on the 2000 computer. Another problem could be that they are under different workgroups. Goto Start > Settings > Control Panel > System Under one of the tabs you should see something along the lines of "computer name" and the workgroup its listed under. As with 2000 its called "WORKGROUP" while with XP, it has a different name as default. The only other problem it could be is that a firewall is blocking the ports or the service that allows sharing is disabled. |
