There appears to be no general price indications on the websites,
probably due to the configuration options and type of installation for
this fairly specialist type of equipment.
If you can furnish them with your requirements they will probably give
you a more accurate price than if I emailed them direct with a generic
request, (though I am more than happy to do so if you request). More
than likely, a sales consultant will probably be involved to advise
you on options to meet your requirements.

This is good but lacks list prices which is key to my analysis.

Clarification of Answer by lot-ga on 08 Aug 2002 10:37 PDT
Hello tomd-ga,
OK, I will email them with a request for generic prices for a
'typical' 'configuration, and post their responses here as a
clarification.
It might take a few days for the responses to come in, so if it's
quiet for a bit, it's not because I've forgotten.

Hello tomd-ga,

Sorry for the slight delay,
I was waiting for responses to come in from the general requests I
sent out:

"To whom it may concern

Would you be kind enough to email me prices
for the following high speed mailsorters
and any optional equipment prices:
(I realise that the price may vary depending on
configuration but I need a guide price for a 'typical'
setup as a ball park figure before taking it any further)
[ mail sorter model/s here ]
Many thanks

kind regards"

and here are the responses, some with my prompts interlaced so you can
see the chain of communication and my attempts to extract a price from
them:

----------------------------------------------------

GBI response:

A fully functioning sorter as described on that portion of our web
site runs approximately $335,000 and needs no options. Please send a
request for quote that contains any specific requirements and I will
be happy to address them directly.

Hello Pilar,

Thanks for your reply,
unfortunately I do not know the details you are asking for,
as no person has been employed yet to assess it.
(hence why I am looking for a ball park figure for budgeting purposes)

However can you supply ball park prices (not a price quotation
which will come later from a person who can supply you with a
detailed technical spec) for the same functionality or near to

National Presort (NPI) response:

Thank you for your interest in NPI. Before we can give you pricing,
we
need further information from you, such as the size of the mailpieces
you plan to sort, what your volume will be, are they regional,
national,
the amount of pockets you're wanting, etc. Prices vary depending on
what you have and makes it impossible to quote any kind of an accurate
price. If you could give us more information, we would be happy to
help you.

We look forward to hearing from you.

----------------------

Hello Henry,

I understand the price will vary as I have already mentioned.

However at this moment in time, I do not have the technical
specification from my customer as they need a rough ball park figure
for internal use to start the project.

I just need a ballpark figure, can you supply the price of the mail
sorters featured in the photos:

NP8000
http://nationalpresort.com/products/np8000.asp

NP4000
http://nationalpresort.com/products/np4000.asp

NP2000
http://nationalpresort.com/products/np2000.asp

NP1000
http://nationalpresort.com/products/np1000.asp

I just need a price guide, not a price quotation,
the price does not need to be accurate, but in the region of.

kind regards

----------------------

We do not provide pricing without some info about the application.
Variables such as mail volume, read rates, available floor space, etc,
can make a ten fold difference in a price.
If you would send specific application info we would be happy to
respond.

----------------------

Hello Henry

Could you supply ball park prices, I do not
need a price quotation at this stage.

I only need it for budgeting purposes,
then the person finally employed to work out the
variables will contact you for a price quotation.

Hello Lenett,

I don't have a zip code as I am not located in the States : (
I have a UK postcode **** *** but the equipment is not for
the UK but for the States (area and USA contact to be determined).

For preliminary budgeting I just need a ballpark figure
(nothing elaborate as a price quotation), for

Bell+Howell Criterion System
http://www.bellhowell.com/mmt/products/1275_criterion.shtml

Bell+Howell FlexiSort System
http://www.bellhowell.com/mmt/products/1275_flexiSort.shtml

e.g. 'prices start from' 'average price is'
'most expensive figure you are looking at' type ball park prices

- The price quotation will come later, when the building / location
has been determined, how many people need to be employed,
who will be responsible for the technical spec etc.

I am following up your enquiry, with respect to Bell & Howell sorters.
I am based in the UK and wish to speak with you. Please can you either
E-mail your phone number or call me.
Best regards,
Bob Hickman
Director Business Development
Bell & Howell Ltd.

----------------------

Hello Bob,

I don't have the technical spec or installation address myself.
The ball park price enquiry is on behalf of a customer.

I'm simply an admin vehicle for gathering prices - so they
can draw up a list of possible vendors.

All I need for the time being is a ball park price approximation,
not an accurate price quotation.
I promise I won't hold a gun to your head and say this is
the price he quoted me :-)

It almost sounds like military grade information that I am
asking for.

Something along the lines of:
How much does a 3 series BMW cost?
About £20-£40,000 depending on options.
(pricing subject to sight of technical spec)
would be fine.

or something similar for:
Bell+Howell Criterion System
http://www.bellhowell.com/mmt/products/1275_criterion.shtml

Bell+Howell FlexiSort System
http://www.bellhowell.com/mmt/products/1275_flexiSort.shtml

I guess the finance dept will take the top end figure
to fund the project to employ the person

I don't need complex pricing at this stage,
1. It will take you too long to work out,
2. Will not be accurate anyway, as a consultant
will need to visit the site (which has not been determined)
3. The customer will want to consult with you to determine
the final technical spec

The customer is simply wanting initial vendor details and machines,
they are not interested in vendors without any guide to
pricing. (that is the brief they have given me)

kind regards

----------------------

We regret that we do not give out pricing until we understand the
application and where the machine is going to be installed. Will you
be able to give me some more information including the company you
represent?
Best regards,
Bob
