I need to know the date for the 2006 Chicago Air and Water Show. I
know that it usually takes place on the third Saturday/Sunday in
August (http://chicago.eventguide.com/), so that would make it August
19/20 2006. What I am looking for is a definite confirmation that the
airshow really will take place on 8/19-20, 2006.

I came across one site that lists this in 2006 for the same days as in 2005:

I believe the "tbc" indication means "to be confirmed".  Frankly, I'm
not sure an official date has even been set.

Bobbie7-ga, in the comment below, may get some additional information on this.

But if the best that can be had is an unconfirmed date, would that meet your needs?

I'm afraid an unconfirmed date is not good enough. I'm already 'quite
sure' that it will take place on August 19 and 20, but I need
confirmation. I am planning a social event around the air show, and
subsequently changing the dates on the invitations would be rather
awkward.
Also, 21/22 August 2006 is certainly incorrect. The show always takes
place on weekends, not on a Monday and Tuesday.
I?ll be traveling next week and likely will not have access to a
computer, so please be patient in case there are additional questions.

I received a response from the Chicago Air and Water Show's website,
"City of Chicago". Unfortunately, the dates for the 2006 show have not
yet been confirmed. The following is the reply I received:

"Those dates have not been confirmed yet. The 2006 festival dates will
be posted on the Mayor's Office of Special Events website
www.cityofchicago.org/specialevents in early fall."
