Question ID: 521654
I have a database with 7500 plus entries.

The database is managed in an excel spreadsheet. There are about 25
fields for each entry. Each field is a separate column.

I am uploading my database online, and to maintain formatting (really
just line spacing, indenting and bulleted lists) when I upload the CSV
version of my spreadsheet online I need to put html code into three of
the columns that need formatting maintained. (basically a bunch of
line breaks <BR> and some paragraph and indent notations.) For me to
code the 7500 plus entries (x3 for each column that need this done)
with the proper html code that will maintain line breaks etc... would
take months. There has to be some way through excel, an add on
program, an external program, or a script. That will simply fill in
the proper html code in the cells on the sheet that would maintain
their current formatting as if it were to be a web page.

I know you can save it as a webpage in excel, which does exactly that,
it puts all the proper html coding to maintain formatting in its right
place... but then I no longer have my database because it is actually
a page. All I need is the html coding inserted into the cells to
maintain formatting when the data is uploaded online.

What and how can I do this? Everything ive found online so far just
converts the whole spread sheet to an html web page output, nothing
seems to put the coding right into the cells of the sheet. That?s what
im looking for.

"A nine-year-old female dog named Cody weighed about 35 pounds. She
developed an acute skin condition with intense itching in both ears.
For the next five to six months, the owners tried everything they
could, but with little relief for Cody. I advised a food change and
told them to get on 4Life Transfer Factor Canine Complete. There began
to be improvement almost right away. At the end of one month, her skin
and hair color looked great; her ears were normal. Cody?s been doing
great for over six months now."

There has to be some way to automatically generate the <br> and <p> notations.

I used http://www.newbiehangout.com/convert/Mt2h.cgi as an online text
to html conversion to put the html in the sample above, if this can be
done online, it has to be doable in excel... right?

Here's a silly idea: Let's say your data is in sheet1.. in Sheet2, you
mirror the data, only say... column A is represented as:
CONCATENATE("<TR><TD>",Sheet1!A10,"</TD>") and column B is represented
as CONCATENATE("<TD>", Sheet1!B10,"</TD>") .... the last column is
represented as CONCATENATE("<TD>", Sheet1!X10,"</TD></TR>").

Place any header HTML stuff
<HTML><HEAD><Title>Spreadsheet</TITLE></HEAD><BODY><TABLE> tag in A1
and a </TABLE></BODY></HTML> at the end of your data. Export the whole
sheet as text, tab delimited, and you're nearly there..

The B10 stuff is relative to your actual data, You can see how you can
copy paste that easily. Of course, where you want bold <B></B> and
italics<I></I> you can choose on your own.
