Hello lovetoresearch-ga,
Your very welcome and in regard to your clarification request;
The Top 30 International Grocery Retailers in Europe 2002 are ranked
by Net and Gross sales. The chart on this direct link to the
information ( http://www.itsfood.com/top30/top30.htm ) shows the sales
and ranking for each company.
The five Supermarket chains for Germany have these sales which I
obtained from the above link as well.
1. Metro-Group - net sales 48,292 - gross sales 54,799
2. Rewe-Group - net sales 37,540 gross sales 41,375
3. Edeka/AVA-Group - net sales 28,035 gross sales 31,000
4. Aldi-Group - net sales 27,300 gross sales 30,079
5. Tengelmann-Group - net sales 14,060 gross sales 15,429
The five Supermarket chains for France have these sales which I
obtained from the above link as well.
1. Carrefour - net sales 56,479 - gross sales 70,502
2. Intermarche - net sales 31,900 - gross sales 34,741
3. Auchan - net sales 24,500 - gross sales 32,190
4. Leclerc - net sales 21,500 - gross sales 26,071
5. Geant Casino - net sales 17,306 - gross sales 22,643
The five Supermarket chains for the U.K. have these sales which I
obtained from the above link as well:
1. Tesco - net sales 35,765 - gross sales 38,867
2. Sainsbury - net sales 22,579 - gross sales 38,867
3. Safeway - net sales 14,029 - gross sales 15,187
Note: I could not find Asda net sales or gross sales but according to
the above link it would not be number five. I would think The Big Food
Group or Marks & Spencer would be number 4 and 5 respectively
according to the chart of the 30 top Grocery Retailers in Europe.
4. Marks & Spencer net sales 11,731 gross sales 12,242
5. Big Food Group net sales 11,201 gross sales 11,772
6. Somerfield net sales - 7,360 gross sales - 8,164
7. JLP net sales 6,470 gross sales 7,160
8. Morrison - net sales 5,946 - gross sales 6,296
Best regards,
