Question ID: 521890
I'm searching for a micro-sized stapler that will fit on a keychain. I
used to own one of these and the unique thing about it was that it
used a *magnet* instead of a spring to advance to the next staple.
The one that I recently lost was about 1/2" wide x 1/2" tall x 1-1/4"
long. Very compact. Unfortunately the store where I bought it is no
longer in business. Any help locating another one greatly
appreciated. Payment for this search will only be awarded for
identifying a micro-sized stapler as described that uses a magnet
instead of a spring to advance the next staple. Researcher will also
need to provide name of manufacturer and/or vendor offering this item
for sale. Thanks and happy researching...!

John,

Do me a favor, and look at the stapler pictures at this link (there
are several pages worth of staplers here):

I don't think your particular stapler is among them. However, it
would be helpful to have a better idea of what your stapler looked
like. Can you identify one or two images that comes closest to the
one you have in mind.

And if none of them are similar, perhaps you can describe yours in a
bit more detail. Thanks.

The one I'm seeking looked a bit like #'s 4,5,6,7 in the picture below...

Consider this additional descriptive information...

Most staplers use a spring to push the staples towards the front of
the stapler. This stapler uses a very small yet high-strength magnet
to "pull" the next staple to the front. This is how they were able to
make it so small. Also, I should point out that this stapler did not
use "standard" sized staples. Rather, it used the smaller No. 10
sized mini staples. Hope this helps.

Have a look at this one:

It's a bit short on specs -- and nothing about magnets -- but I
thought it worth a look, anyway.

Thanks for following up. Actually, the one I'm looking for is about
1/2 the size of the one you referenced. Perhaps even smaller than
half. The search continues...

Hi John,

I think I know the stapler you're referring to, as I'm almost sure I
have the same one. The stapler has a magnetic mechanism like you
describe, and a hole at the back end so it can be attached to a
keyring.

Just to be sure, please take a look here and let me know if this is the one...

If it is, then I can direct you to a site where you buy a compact
stationary kit which contains this exact stapler.

Thanks,

Having taken a closer look at staplers 4, 5, 6, & 7, in the link you
provided, I am absolutely certain the stapler you're after is the one
made by the Plus Corporation (Japan).

I did not find the stapler being sold on its own, but it does come in
a stationery set (made by the same company), which you can buy online
through the iOffer.com website:

http://www.ioffer.com/i/TEAM-DEMI-OFFICE-IN-A-BOX-STATIONARY-KIT-NR-6482669

As I mentioned earlier, the stapler has a hole at the back so a
keyring can be affixed, but the stapler in the sationary set does not
come with a keyring and chain attachment.

I hope this helps.

If you have any questions, please request clarification.

That looks just slightly different from the one that I lost, Jackburton -

However, mine was 5+ years old so they may have updated the look
during that time. Like the one in the link, mine also was of Japanese
origin. Very rugged/durable. Took a tremendous amount of abuse and
kept on "ticking". If yours is of the same high quality that I've
described, then I think it's safe to assume this is the right one.

While I'm not opposed to purchasing the whole kit, I'd prefer to have
choices of colors, etc. If just replacing the one I lost, I wouldn't
care. However, I'd like to place a small quantity order (a dozen
perhaps?) to give as gifts (my friends always begged me to give them
mine) and am thus a bit more price conscious.

A few questions for clarification...
1. Is the one you refenced of the same rugged design as described above?
2. Can you confirm that the stapler itself has the ability to be
attached to the keyring?

Would love to have a source for just the stapler itself. Naturally,
if you find one, I'd like to know it. Thanks...

Had a closer look at Plus Corp's web site and noticed that they have a
rainbow assortment of staplers available. While they do list model
numbers, there are no accompanying pics to determine which stapler is
which. Thus my question...

Does your stapler have any sort of model number on it? Having this
would obviously make it easier to order stapler-only in bulk directly
from Plus Corp.

Thanks again...

I don't think the company produces these staplers anymore. They
started coming out in the 80's as the MUSEUM page indicates. The
stapler appears twice on this page... one is displayed on its own in
the cocktail glass, and the other is within the Team-Demi stationery
box. Both the stapler (on it own) and the Team-Demi kit do come in a
variety of colors, as you rightly stated.

My stapler came with the kit, though it would appear the company also
produced staplers to be sold separately, though I have not come across
any place that sells them as individual items.

In rensponse to you first clarification request, I am confident that
the stapler in the kit is the same design as the individually sold
stapler, and I can confirm that it has the ability to be attached to a
keyring. At the back end of the stapler there's a hole, but this part
of the stapler is not visible in the kit, as it is embedded in the
protective foam. I would suggest you contact the seller of the kit to
verify. I very much doubt there was an updated design.

To answer your second clarification request, my stapler does have a
number on the underside of the stapler's top section i.e. the part
that lifts up to allow staples to be inserted in the tray beneath. I
am not sure what this number signifies but the number "85" is etched
in the metal, and then after a space there is a "0". So it looks like
this...[ 85 0 ]. Just so you know, my stapler is black in color. I
also checked the box itself for markings, but there are none.

I hope I have clarified your queries. If there's anything else, please
let me know.

I would very interested to know if Plus Corp is making more. I checked
out their STAPLERS page, but I do not see this stapler.

Brilliant research...!

Thanks ever so much for the timely and professional answers.

PS: Totally unrelated to my request, here's a quick hint for your
"Chinese Semiconductor Manufacturers" search.... Most such companies
in Mainland China are located in the city of Shenzen. A perusal
through the AmCham directory should yield plentiful results.
Cheers...!!!
