Hi 7184:

I did some searching for you, and was able to find the following statistics:

Oil greases the skids for talks with West
Date: May 15, 2005
URL: http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050515/COLUMNIST25/505150339
Quote: "Most important for Russia, EU leaders, who rely on it for 20
percent of the union's oil and natural gas imports, promised Mr. Putin
to keep negotiating with Russia on its accession to the World Trade
Organization and visa-free travel to EU countries."

EU, Russia sign deal in bid to end disputes
Date: 11 May 2005
URL: http://www.euractiv.com/Article?tcmuri=tcm:29-139268-16&type=News
Quote: "One key consideration for the EU is that Russia is a major
energy supplier for the member states. Russia's Gazprom supplies
around 25% of the EU's natural gas needs, and the EU buys 85% of
Russia's oil exports."

Now, that's not hard and fast figures from *only* 2004, but my
searching shows me that such statistics are not yet available, at
least not in websites that don't charge thousands of dollars for
access.

Will this suffice as an answer to your question?

Thanks.

Something is wrong with your figures. For the last several years 50%
of EUs natural gas has come from Russia. The question is how much oil.
I beleive it is 30% of the EU import but I need that verified.

Hi 7184:

Well, I was able to find on very good reference to the 30% figure at:

The EU-Russia Energy Dialogue
URL: http://europa.eu.int/comm/energy/russia/presentations/doc/2004_berlin_en.pdf
Quote: "Data: EU-25 today
? 30% of oil imports from Russia
? 50% of gas imports from Russia"

While it is obvious from the filename (2004_berlin_en.pdf) that this
presentation was given in 2004, there is no actual date in the file
and no exact indication of when the given figures are from.

However, the source of this information is certainly a good one!

http://europa.eu.int/index_en.htm

Is that sufficient to your needs?

Thanks.

The year 2005 is not over yet, so I doubt that there will be final
statistics for that year...

Being the author of the Berlin presentation I can confirm that these
figures are for 2004, bearing in mind also that they take already into
account the new Member States which joined the EU on May 1 2004. You
won't find something more recent...
