Question ID: 522062
My wife brought me her coworkers computer to look at. It has the
Windows server 2003 operating system on it (I have no idea why). I was
trying to get online with that system using my cable modem, a Toshiba
PCX2200. I use Windows XP. Her system has an ethernet card but I am
unable to get online. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks for
your help.

This answered some questions but this will allow me to run the machine
as a server and all I need is to get it online. Also, I do not have
the Windows CD.
Thanks again for your help.

Browse to the control panel from the start menu, click the network
connections icon, right click on the "local area connection" adapter
and choose properties, in the dialog that comes up look for the option
"Internet Protocol TCP/IP" and insure that the checkbox next to it is
selected. Highligh the option and choose the properties button, in the
dialog that comes up insure that obtain IP automactically and obtain
DNS servers automatically radio buttons are selected, if they are not,
select them and choose ok out of all of the dialogs that have been
opened. Try to connect to the internet. If this does not fix the
problem, do the following and paste the output of the command into
this forum and I will try to assist further.

click start button, choose run, in dialog type "cmd" without the
quotes, press enter.

in the black window(known as a command prompt) type "ipconfig /all"
exactlty as you see it without the quotes, press enter. Copy and paste
the output to this forum for more assistance.
