Since i re-installed windows (XP) on my laptop, when i try to open
gmail, i get the "this page can not be desplayed" message.
(by the way, there is another web page that I can not open since then.)

Try disabling the pop-up blocker and resetting your security in your
web content zones, as advised here:

I faced the same problem.
I had Zonealarm which was stopping Gmail and rediffmail.com

Gmail, Rediffmail uses cookies(3rd party), so if your browser dont
allow cookies, then the page wont be displayed.

Change the Browser Privacy and Security Settings to Medium.
Try to add the Website to the Trusted Sites list.
