I have a beautiful antique lazy susan dish set made of glazed pottery. One of the dishes broke a couple of years ago. I glued the pieces together with super glue, but there were tiny pieces that didn't get picked up at the time of breaking. What I have now is a non-usable set, because one of the dishes has some long cracks along where I glued it and some chips on the edges. I want to fill in the cracks with some type of putty, and paint it to match the dish. Please also consider the following questions: Will it be washable with soap and water. Would I be able to use it to hold food? If not with food, I still want to use it for a display item. Will I be able to find paint that dries to look like glazed pottery and mix the color to match the dish? The dish is all one color, no patterns to hide flaws in my workmanship. It has to be smooth and a perfect match to satisfy. Should I just give up? |

I suggest that you take the piece to a professional pottery restorer. It is very difficult to make repairs that appear seamless. I once spent several days trying to fix a broken pottery mug, and the results were less than satisfactory. I finally took the mug to a local artisan who specializes in repairing and restoring pottery, and she was able to make the mug look almost like new. It cost me $35 to get this done, but since the mug was a keepsake, it was well worth the cost. |
