I am looking for the title of a movie. This is what I know:

It came out somewhere around 2000. It is a horror movie, and the story
(at least the bits and pieces that I can remember), goes something
like this:

A girl is driving (possibly with a friend/boyfirend) to a remote town.
When she get's there, she/they find that the town is empty, yet it
seems as if people suddenly left, as there are still cars running in
the streets. Finally, they find a person, a dead salesperson behind a
counter. Finally, we learn that the town's desertion is due to
monster/monsters that come from deep down in the earth. Another flash
I have about this movie is that I remember something about a drain,
and that the monsters could come up through them. Also at some point
they are in the sewers I believe.

In any case, I have been trying to figure out the title of this movie
for about 4 months now. If you know this movie, please let me know!

I believe your movie may be "Phantoms."

Does this sound familiar?

"Phantoms, Dimension Films, 1997...
Peter O'Toole, Rose McGowan, Joanna Going, Ben Affleck; When two
sisters, Jenny (Going) and Lisa Pailey (McGowan) arrive in a small
Colorado town, they find that just about everyone is gone. Discovering
their housekeeper murdered, they try to find the police (Sheriff Bryce
Hammond - Ben Affleck), who are just as frightened as they are. It
turns out that some evil force, 'Ancient Enemy' has emerged from the
sewers to destroy humankind. Dr. Timothy Flyte (O'Toole), a
paleobiologist, attempts to help capture and kill Mr. Nasty."
