I will be in Normandy, France in late May/early June. My family has been to the D-Day beaches several times, usually in the winter. We will be travelling with a friend, and want to take her to the beaches. My question is, would it be better to go on Sunday, May 29 or Saturday, June 4 (the weekend of the D-Day anniversary). I guess I am hoping to find out whether the "events" of the later weekend would justify the crowds. We have never been there in the summer, so I have no idea how crowded it can get. It seems that contemplating the vast expanse of American graves is more of a solitary pursuit, not something you would want to do with a lot of people around. On the other hand, a stirring tribute might make a big impression on our kids. I have tried to find information on commemorative events this year, but to no avail. I would appreciate the help. Keep in mind that we are travelling with 4 kids, ages 2, 5 13 and 16. Thanks |
