The government has a number of statistical websites (www.FedStats.gov,
etc.) that seem to have a wealth of information.

Five years ago, I found the information I was looking for, but cannot
recall the URL to find more current information.

I want to download two spreadsheets from their website. Spreadsheet #1 is titled:
"Number of Firms, Number of Establishments, Employment, and Annual
Payroll by Employment Size of the Enterprise for the United States,
All Industries - 2000"

(I want the most current copy of this, not the 2000 copy -- I already
have this one). If it is any help, the file is saved on my hard disk
as "usalli00.xls".

The second spreadsheet is titled:
"Number of Firms, Number of Establishments, Employment, and Annual
Payroll by Employment Size of the Enterprise for the United States,
Sectors (large employment size groups) - 2000"

This may have the filename "uslrg00.xls".

The newest versions of these files are from 2002. This page,
"Statistics of U.S. Businesses," was updated in April 2005, but, as
you can see, the most recent data files cited are dated 2002:

U.S. Census Bureau: Statistics of U.S. Businesses
http://www.census.gov/csd/susb/

Here are the most recently posted versions of the files you seek:

U.S., all industries
http://www.census.gov/csd/susb/usalli02.xls

U.S., sectors (large employment size groups- up to 10,000+)
http://www.census.gov/csd/susb/uslrg02.xls

I have successfully downloaded both of these files. Let me know if you
have any difficulty obtaining them.

Here you'll find other 2002 files that may be of interest:

U.S. Census Bureau: Tabulations by Enterprise Size
http://www.census.gov/csd/susb/susb02.htm

My search strategy in locating the files began with a visit to the
U.S. Census site's Statisics of U.S. Businesses (SUSB) page. I had
bookmarked the page because of an earlier research project.

I hope this is precisely what you need. If anything is unclear or
incomplete, please request clarification; I'll be glad to offer
further assistance before you rate my answer.
