Dear nina2-ga; I?m posting my answer after finding confirmation of what I said in my comments. This art site describes Helnwein?s painting this way: "Dream as if you'll live forever...Live as if you'll die today". Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean & Humphrey Bogart share their common tales in this classic Diner scene painted by Helnwein.? ART AFTER DARK http://www.artafterdark.com/blvdofbrokendreams.htm I am quite certain now that the common thread shared by the characters depicted in the painting is the fact that they are tragic figures whose successes overwhelmed them and ultimately led, in one way or another, to their (and our) broken dreams and their premature deaths. I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any questions about my research please post a clarification request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise, I welcome your rating and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us. Best regards; Tutuzdad ? The painting "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Gottfried Helnwein is actually a parody of the famous painting 'Nighthawks' by Edward Hopper. NIGHTHAWKS http://faculty.evansville.edu/rl29/art105/img/hopper_nighthawks.jpg In his version of the painting Helnwein is, in my opinion, obviously making a statement about the fragile state of even the most successful among us. The characters he selected are tragic figures who success overwhelmed them and ultimatley led, in one way or another, to their untimely demise. Half jokingly, of course, it would be reasonable to assume that John Belushi is in the kitchen and Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin are in the restrooms. Let me know if I have shed any light on your search for an answer. regards; tutuzdad-ga |
