I am working on my B.A., senior project. The subject is employee
dysfunction in the workplace and how managers can deal with the
problems involved. I need websites and other materials discussing
current, established research that directly relate to this subject.

billrosa,

Can you let me know a bit more about the type of materials you're
seeking. There is a lot of high-quality material aimed at offering
practical advice to managers, co-workers, etc. such as this fairly
short article:

http://www.allbusiness.com/articles/EmploymentHR/1338-33-1817.html
Managing Problem Employees

and this more in-depth piece:

http://www.coreelements.com/articles/ProbEmp1.pdf
Using Informal Discipline to Deal with Problem Employees

Are these the types of resources you're after? Let me know.

pafalafa-ga,
Yes, that's the type of material I'm looking for, targeted for
managers. Because this is a college term type paper, I need to cite my
sources (i.e. "Sawyer and pianin, 2003"). The sources can be from
websites, articles, books, etc. I would like a variety of sources so I
can give a well rounded paper and be able to sum up at the end with my
opinion about practical methods for managers. This will be a large
report, about 50 pages, so I need plenty of material to work with.
Thanks for your help,

billrosa-ga,

Hello, and thanks for getting back to me.

There's a great deal of information on the internet on the topic of
the so-called "problem employee". Most of it is geared towards
practical advice to employers, managers and co-workers, although there
are also some more formal academic-style write-ups.

I've selected what I believe to be the best of the bunch, with an eye
towards providing you a variety of resources that are appropriate to
the undergraduate level.

I believe the resources below should provide you a wealth of
information. However, please do not rate this answer until you are
satisfied that you have everything you need. If I can help you with
anything else -- or if you simply need additional references (50 pages
is a long paper, after all) -- just post a Request for Clarification,
and I'm at your service.

All the best,

pafalafa-ga

Using Informal Discipline to Deal with Problem Employees

Part 1 discusses personal issues that can surface when dealing with
problem employees and how they can cause managers to act in ways that
are not necessarily in an organization s best interest. It also
discusses the role that Human Resources can take to educate managers
on their own tendencies and facilitate decisions that better serve
both the company and the employee. Part 2 provides recommendations
regarding treatment of problem employees by exploring potential
reasons for their actions and by providing practical tips and
strategies for conducting an informal discipline session.
