Hello Dj2965-ga,
I went right to the source and called American Express to ask them
about your question. They have a specific 800 number set up for
questions about the Platinum Card, and it is... (Toll Free)
1-800-525-3355 or (Collect for International) 1-954-473-2123.
I spoke with Nikki, who can be reached at that number, extension
54097. She also stated anyone else could help you as well, but she was
most professional and I would say try her first.

To get a Platinum Card from AmEx, you need to be invited. You can?t
just apply outright for the card. You must have an existing Green or
Gold card and be invited by the Amex Company. In order to get a Green
or Gold Card, you must be at least 18 years of age, have a minimum
income of $20,000 USD, and be a US Resident.
Here?s some information and #?s on the Green and Gold card incase
you?d like to apply for one of them to possibly get the platinum card.
Green: Personal Card (Toll Free) 1-800-528-4800 or (Collect for
International) 1-336-393-1111
Gold: Gold Card (Toll Free) 1-800-327-2177 or (Collect for
International) 1-336-393-1111
You can apply for either of those cards by calling 1-800-THE-CARD (1-800-843-2243)
Now, once you have a Green or Gold Card, they state you need to spend
about $5000.00 USD on the card a month, paying it off 75%-100% (full
balance) each month for at least 6 months to a year. AT THE COMPANY?S
DISCRETION, THEY WILL ISSUE YOU AN INVITE (She was very firm about
this ? not everyone who meets all the requirements is invited). At no
time, can you request an invite or a card.
You can apply online for the Green and Gold cards at:
http://www68.americanexpress.com/cust_serv/FrontServlet?request_type=CSAmex&type=ent&level2=get&subLevel2=persfaq&aexp_nav=cs_ent_phonelist_cgq3#CGQ3
In addition, it was recommended to me by someone, (a trusted friend),
who was recently looking for a Platinum card and didn?t want to go
through the invite hassle to try the site www.mynewcard.com. She said
they accept ?thin? credit files (not much history) as long as there is
recent positive information (in the last 3 to 6 months). I believe
they offer Visa?s through Bank of America.
I hope this helps. If this answer requires further explanation, please
request clarification before rating it, and I'll be happy to look into
this further.

This is not the detail, that I was looking for. Thank you for your
help, but I could have easily called amex myself. If you would
comment on the details of the qualifications, I would appreciate it,
if you would also be kind enough to comment on the Black card, that
would help the score. Thank you.

Hello again -
You asked for..."What are the specific qualifications American Express
uses to prescreen, and qualify applicants for this prestigious card.
Income, spending patterns - yearly amounts, age, anything."
I told you how they prescreen and qualify persons for it.
"You must have an existing Green or Gold card and be invited by the Amex Company"
I told you about income needed with the Gold or Green to qualify you.
There is not a minimum income for the invite for the platinum. The
only minimum income considered is just to get the Gold or Green that
can get you an invite to the platinum.
"...have a minimum income of $20,000 USD..."
I told you about spending patterns needed with the Green or Gold to
get an invite for the platinum.
?Now, once you have a Green or Gold Card, they state you need to spend
about $5000.00 USD on the card a month, paying it off 75%-100% (full
balance) each month for at least 6 months to a year.?
I told you about the only age requirement they have for any card they offer.
??you must be at least 18 years of age??
I also let you know that you must be a US Resident to qualify.
You ask about the details of the qualifications. Being that it?s a
financial industry, the qualifications do not have details. They are
firm rules the company sets and puts in their legal card member
agreement(s) or uses internally to qualify members for other cards.
Revealing internal processes would not only be unethical of the person
I spoke with, it would probably cause her to lose her job if she did
reveal any proprietary information.
As far as the black card, please feel free to post another question,
as that is outside of the scope of the original question, as it was
not even mentioned in the original question and has nothing to do with
getting a Platinum card.
I hope that this clears up any confusion about me answering the
question you asked originally. I?m sorry it took a day or two for me
to respond, but I was out camping this weekend and just got back into
town.
