Charles Frederick Hartt was the first professor of geology at Cornell University.

"...Before their disagreement, Agassiz had recommended Hartt for the
position of inaugural professor of geology at the recently founded
Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Hartt accepted the challenge,
and with a secure academic position, he married Lucy Lynde in December
1868..."
