Question Background:
I work for a health agency that is trying to identify patients who
take multiple drugs. More specifically, drugs that when not taken
routinely, can have a serious negative impact on the patient's health
and/or disease state.
My company hopes to contact these people and offer a reminder service.
The three diseases we are studying are: CHF (Congestive Heart
Failure), COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Diabetes (Type
I and Type II).
My Question:
What medications are used to treat CHF?
For this answer to be complete I need a complete list of the drugs':
a) General classifications (i.e. ACE inhibitor, Diuretic)
b) Specific names (i.e. accupril)
c) NDC codes (i.e. 0465-6789-01)
Research already done:
I have searched the internet, PDR, CDER (FDA), and asked my local
pharmacist for help. Here are the results I've gotten so far:
General categories--
Ace Inhibitors, Beta Blockers, Diuretics, Angiotensin receptor
blockers (ARBs), Digitalis glycosides.
---
Specific examples:
Ace inhibitors-- Sestail, Altace, Mauilc, Accupril
Beta Blockers-- Coneg, Zebeta (bisoprolol)
Diuretic-- Spironolactone (Aldactone)
ARB-- Diovan
This list needs to be complete, and include NDC codes.
Resources:
I have found the following resources to be of great help:
http://www.phrma.org/newmedicines/
http://www.centerwatch.com/patient/drugs/DRUGLIST.html
http://www.efactsonline.com/Fac/servlet/MainPage
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000158.htm
http://www.fda.gov/cder/ndc/
Any background on drug information, synnergies, racemic mixtures, or
other info is welcome, but not the aim of this research. The answer
format I really require is the aforementioned drug categories (and any
others) with drugs that fall under those categories, and the
medications associated NDC codes.
Additionally, I'd like to know the research path you took to get this answer.
If I am satisfied with the answer, I will post the same question for
Diabetes and COPD.
Thanks so much. |
