I am trying to help a friend of mine find a movie that he saw on an
airplane a few years back. It is an Italian film with subtitles. He
saw it on a flight from Italy to Chicago in October of 2003.

I have tried to contact the airline, but they said they don't provide
information like that. (whatever that means) I have tried to do
searches online, but they come up short. I have even watched quite a
few Italian movies from Netflix hoping to find it.

I only have limited information on the movie...
-It is Italian
-English subtitles
-assuming it is a movie from 2003, since it was shown on a plane
-it is about a school for troubled kids. One kid doesn't speak
(autism?) One girl thinks she is fat, but really isn't. Something
about the kids being sent off to this school because their parents
don't know how to handle them
-It is not the movie Ciao Professore

I wish I had more info on it... hopefully there is an Italian movie
buff out there that can at least give me movies that I can read up on.

Hello everyday1111-ga,

I think I've found your film. I believe it is a documentary by Stefano
Rulli entitled A Particular Silence or Un silenzio particolare about
his autistic son and a summer they spent with him at a special
vacation home. Check these links and let me know if this is it.
Thanks.

Stefano Rulli (screenwriter of "Best of Youth") gives us a deeply
moving look at the world of his autistic son in A PARTICULAR SILENCE.

Filmmaker Stefano Rulli and his partner Clara Sereni decide to take
their son Matteo on holiday to a country house, where numerous
families from very different backgrounds mingle and spend time
together. But Matteo cannot stand being inside the farmhouse, and
spends all of his time outside instead, almost as if there was some
force in the house keeping him out.

Dear Everyday,

Could it be a film described like that:
"A 30-year-old man, granted leave from prison for a few days to see
his dying father, is consumed with thoughts of the past and his
wayward friends who were once young and full of life. Through
flashbacks he recalls senseless deaths, suicides, family violence,
doomed love, acts of vengeance. He is now determined to turn revenge
into redemption, if it?s not too late. This harsh look at life among
juvenile delinquents from Giugliano, near Naples, stunned audiences at
the Berlin Film Festival"

Thank you for the input so far...

I reviewed the movies and it is not "A Particular Silence" and it is
not about the farmhouse... and it isn't about the guy that was
released from Prison.

I know it is defintely about a school for troubled kids. I don't know
for sure if the one student has autism...maybe he is more of a mute???

ok.. I found out a little bit more about the movie...

my friend thinks he remembers that the little boy's mother dies and
that is what makes him not talk. The school that he is sent to teaches
via scientific methods to make these students 'better'. There is a
girl in the movie, he thinks her name might be Apolonia... but he
could be wrong. He remembers that the teacher is new to the school and
the girl starts to like him.

ahhh this is making me crazy! :)
