My memory of this quote may be slightly inaccurate but the substance of it is thus:

"That which prevents the work's completion becomes the work"

My question is, who said this and where?

"What prevents a work from being completed becomes the work itself."

Marcus Aurelius.

I came across the same quote cited above by Bowler, but have been
unable to discover where Marcus Aurelius said this. I hope someone
turns up a precise source, because I love the quote and would like to
know its origins.
