Question ID: 524255
Hello
I am writing this on behalf of my brother who
is a very good ballpoint artist. My brother draws in the traditional style.
Is there anyone out there who is able to tell me of other ballpoint pen
artists in the U>K. I would appreciate this knowledge very much indeed.
My brother cannot email to anyone himself as he suffers with autism. He has
been using ballpoint pens for at least ten years and he is excellent at drawing
landscapes, seascapes and countryside scenes. He has a wide subject area and
is self taught. My brother had his very first exibition on at the
candid arts trust at the angel, near to islington. The feedback we have
had from the general
public has been very complimentary, and people just cannot beleive my brothers
drawings are done with a cheap old ballpoint pen. He doesn't use a
good quality pen as he un employed due to health reasons. As I have
stated in my email my brother draws in the traditional olde-worldly-
style. He loves constable and turner so I'm sure everyone will
understand my brothers style
of working.

Thankyou sincerely

Hi Maria,

Phew, this turned out to be a harder search than I was expecting but I
did manage to find three UK artists listed on the internet for you,
perhaps contacting them will yield more names. I've enjoyed the
research and have been amazed to see what can be done with the ball
point pen. I can imagine that you have some very lovely works of art
on your walls, lucky you!

2) Paula W Patterson: Biro
It must be tricky though because biro models come and go
"The ink changes in every pen. Once I bought 2 identical biros at the
same time, one is constantly more blue, one more black. So you want to
finish a drawing with one pen or you're in trouble. I've got some
drawings and now I'm really eager to see how they're ageing, and you
can actually see now, some are going purplish, some are going bue-ish
and it's real fascinating but its one of those things that I'm either
going to have to emotionally not let it bother me that it's going to
age in different ways, or I've got to learn the amount of time I can
get out of a pen. the amount of drawing I can get out of a pen for the
particular subject I'm going to work with."

I was very happy to find the UK artists for you and I hope your
brother enjoys the biro websites. The idea of sending samples of your
brother's art to pen companies seems a good one to me as I'm sure you
could gather up quite a few free samplings of pens in this way. If you
have any questions, please post a clarification request *before*
closing/rating my answer and I'll be happy to reply.

Thank you,

Hopefully to add to hummer-ga's great answer, here is another resource.

Stephen Wiltshire
http://www.stephenwiltshire.co.uk/

"As a child, Stephen was mute and did not relate to other human beings.
Aged three, he was diagnosed as autistic.
...
Aged eight, Stephen started drawing cityscapes after the effects of an
earthquake (all imaginary) as a result of being shown photographs of
earthquakes in a book at school. He also became obsessed with cars and
illustrations of cars at this time (his knowledge of them is encyclopaedic)
and he drew most of the major London landmarks."
