Dear hose7, Col. Jonathan Rice Miles (born 17 Nov 1817; died 1 Apr 1903) of the 27th Illinois Infantry was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. That fact is mentioned in a genealogical text: "Col. Miles lived a retired life for many years (...). He was a consistent and zealous member of the M.E. church, and loved the service of his Master." It might be worth mentioning that his father, Rev. Alexander Miles (1788-1856) was a deacon in the Methodist Church. Source: Robert F. Commagere, "Descendants of Rev. Alexander Miles" http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/family/miles.txt Hope this answers your question!
