I have a windows desktop application which i intend to sell as firstly a free
trial from my website, and then sell an activation key after the
trial. Sales will be in the region of 10,000 unique customers a month,
and selling price around $30. Where can I find advice on how to set up
such a solution, how
to manage licencing / activation, legalities, refunds, selling
internationally and taxes, etc. In other words, best
practices for setting up a software download ecommerce site. |

Hi there,
There are consultation and other services available specific to
addressing those needs. Before I go any further, it would help if I
had a general idea of what kind of budget you're looking at for your
set up.
Cheers,

Hello,
My intention would be to build a site specifically around this one
product, for which we have typically spent around $2000 for a web
store solution, but this has always been for physical goods, not
electronic download.
I was hoping to get most of the answers from free resources available
on the web rather than engaging a consulting firm.
Hope this helps

After looking fairly hard, I haven't found any comprehensive guides to
the sort of endeavor you propose. However, I myself know a thing or
two about software licensing and web publishing, and I'd be happy to
share my expertise with you. Would you be content with an answer in
which I give you my advice on licensing, activation, refunds,
taxation, marketing, and payment processing? I anticipate it would
consist of 1500 to 2000 words in total, along with links to solution
providers and some supporting documentation.
