Nice to hear from you again, psychopoet!
"Six Feet Under" is coming to an end not because it isn't popular, but
because its creator, Alan Ball, feels that the show has run its
course.
"HBO is ready to send out condolence cards for its hit 'dramedy' Six
Feet Under, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The series, which has
swept up Emmy nominations every year since it debuted in 2001, will be
interred at the end of its upcoming fifth season, by agreement with
its creator, Alan Ball."

"HBO's quirky, critically praised drama 'Six Feet Under' will be put
into the ground after next season. Creator Alan Ball has told network
executives that next season, the show's fifth, will bring the series
about the dysfunctional, funeral-home-owning Fisher family to a
creative endpoint...
'Working on 'Six Feet Under' has been enormously fulfilling
creatively, but if the show is about anything, it's about the fact
that everything comes to an end,' Ball says in a statement given to
the Hollywood trade papers."

Regarding what everyone will do next, here's what I know:
There are rumors that a film is being developed based upon the "Max
Payne" video game, and Peter Krause (Nate on SFU) may be playing the
title role.
Rainn Wilson, who played Arthur, is now a regular on NBC's comedy "The
Office," which has been renewed for next season. He's also in the film
"Sahara."
Michael C. Hall, who plays David, appears in a movie called "Bereft,"
which will soon air on Showtime (the teasers are already being shown).
Mathew St. Patrick, who plays Keith, has recently been a guest star on
"Crossing Jordan," and will play a police detective in a new series,
"Reunion," which starts in September 2005 on Fox.
Frances Conroy, who plays Ruth, is in a Steve Martin movie called "Shopgirl."
James Cromwell, who plays George, is in the new movie "The Longest Yard."
Lauren Ambrose, who plays Claire, can't seem to get away from
funeral-related subjects: she is currently appearing in London in a
play called "Buried Child."
I will miss "Six Feet Under" a lot. I felt as if I knew these people,
and their loss is going to be noticeable. But I am glad that the show
will end gracefully, rather than dwindling season by season until it
loses all its fans, as sometimes happens.
My suggestion for the last episode:
A new assistant is hired. Unbeknownst to all, he is a drug addict. He
figures that unusual chemical smells will not be noticed in the
embalming room, so he secretly turns the place into a meth lab. Claire
sneaks downstairs to smoke a joint, and BOOM...the entire Fisher clan
(plus Rico) become clients of Krohner Services International. Dad
Fisher, who was killed by a bus way back in the first episode, is
delighted to welcome everybody to the next plane of existence.
Best,
