Is it a nickname for Lennie in "Of Mice and Men", or the name of a
rabbit in the book?
Masses of sites connect the book with the film cartoon "Bugs Bunny",
apparently pointing out that the cartoon character was based on the
character of Lennie in the book.

Several of Steinbeck's novels have numerous minor colorful characters
that enter and exit the novel quickly. Particularly Tortilla Flat and
Cannery Row. A guess that Cannery Row is the novel with "Bugs" as a
character.
