I'd like an updated survey of HTML editors available for Windows XP.
These editors should be usable by an HTML novice or expert. They
should primarily have a mode which shows the HTML source code, with
preview in a browser. (As opposed to tools which are primarily WYSIWYG
such as DreamWeaver or FrontPage.) The reason I want code mode as
primary is to (a) help teach real HTML to the newbie and (b) make the
expert comfortable. :)

Ideally I'd like this info posted into a QuickBase; alternatively I
will accept it in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

I would only like editors listed which sell for $99 or less. (Unless
you know one that is a bit more but really awesome.)

My initial list of candidates to include is:

http://www.coffeecup.com/html-editor/
http://www.editplus.com/
http://www.crimsoneditor.com/
http://www.bradsoft.com/topstyle/
http://www.notetab.com/

Plus any other editors you think I should consider.

The attributes I would like for each are:

- price
- download size
- install/uninstall etiquette rating 1=bad to 10=perfect
- ease of use
- speed: startup time, interactive performance, etc
- syntax highlighting
- ability to run some type of "lint" or "tidy" program to highlight errors
- version of html
- multi-file support, e.g., search and replace across multiple files
- support for include files, so several html files can share a common menu etc
- good css support
- validate/preview in both msie and firefox

And any other attributes you think are important.

Another attribute to include in your analysis:

- ftp support: can the editor store/remember my ftp settings so it can
automatically publish each file to my web server when I save it.
