I am trying to put together a sports schedule for nine teams.  The
schedule will include:

1) Nine teams: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I
2) Each team must play each other once, thus each team will play eight games
3) The schedule is over nine nights, with four games each night,
involving eight teams.  Thus each night one team will not play
4) There are four time slots each night: 1, 2, 3, 4
5) Over the course of the nine nights, each team will play in each
slot twice.  Thus, no team will play in a slot more than once or less
than twice.

What does this schedule look like? (if not possible, why?)

The last factor should read:

than twice.

Sorry for the confusion!

I have the schedule below ( 9 days 9 teams) 1,2,3,4 are the four time slots.
This is the best evenly distributed schedule -- no two teams in the
last slot play in the first slot next day, this way they can rest.

I have a feeling you're UK-based.  Goodness me, what a dramatic week
of soccer.  I did not see the Liverpool game yesterday but it seemed
like a cracker.  My boyfriend follows an SPL team -- so Sunday was
high drama as well.
