crbinmequon-ga,
I've checked the FDA datbases, and I see that there are about 35-400
OTC drugs that have been approved. I can provide you with a full list
of these drugs, along with their approval dates, but with several
caveats:
1. Many drugs have been approved multiple times (different forms,
different doses, different manufacturers). Acetaminophen, for
instance, has about a dozen approvals and different approval dates.
2. For some reason, the FDA database only records precise dates for
recent approvals in the past few decades. Prior to 1982, however, the
only information shown is "Approved Prior to Jan 1, 1982".
3. The FDA database does not -- as far as I can tell -- distinguish
between plain old OTC medicines, and those that were once Rx meds, and
are now approved. It simply lists them as OTC, along with the date of
approval.
If that sounds like it would meet your needs, let me know, and I can
post the full list as an answer to your question.
