Hi Brian,
I have been doing some research for you on A. F. Breanski Jr's
artwork, but I need your clarification that the painting you have
called "Beabach Nam-Bo Trossachs" is the same as this one:
http://www.l-boro.demon.co.uk/breanski/db__44.htm
which is called "At the Foot of the Trossachs".
If it is the same, please let me know so I can continue with the
research.
Thanks!

This is not the same painting, but the themes are similar as is the
location.
I have access to a digital picture of the original and frame if that
would be of assistance.

Hi Brian,
Yes, maybe if you have a digital picture of it, it could help. Post
the url and I'll have a look.
Thanks!

Clarification of Question by brian0922-ga on 10 Aug 2002 13:41 PDT
The painting is 30" wide x 20" high, and is in the original heavy
frame which is approx. 6" wide and very ornate.
The picture is in my posession, and the digital photo, that is
available, I'm not sure how to attach or forward with these comments.
Sorry but I'm not too clear on posting to urls.
The picture actually has several highland cattle in the scene, which I
assume is to do with the cattle "rustling" or "lifting" that occurred
in this area and era.
If I can offer any more details, please let me know,
Sincerely,
Brian

Hi Brian,
Take a look at this and tell me if it's the same one:
http://www.l-boro.demon.co.uk/breanski/db__31.htm
If it isn't that one, take a look at this site and see if yours is one of those:
http://www.l-boro.demon.co.uk/breanski/junior.htm
Thanks!

The firt copy "evening in Glen Filas" is the same background, but
different perspective, and lighting, as well as the stream showing
more turbulence. The frame however appears to be identicle to the
painting we have.

Brian

Hi Brian,
After searching over 95 sites, I have not found the exact painting you
have described. But I have found some other original paintings by A.
F. Breanski Jr and their worth. I have also received a response from a
well-known art gallery. If you decide the information I have is enough
to answer your question, I will be happy to post it here.

Thanks!

Hi Brian,

After an extensive search through many sites, the painting you own was
not found. I was able to find many similar works but not the exact
one.

"The son and pupil of Alfred de Breanski, Sr., the well-known
Victorian landscape artist, Alfred Jr., like his father, often painted
the mountainous landscapes of Scotland and Wales concentrating on the
effects of sunlight on the Highland scenery at different times of the
day. His work was readily confused with that of his father's, and he
would often sign his works A.F. de Breanski, A.F. de Breanski, Jr., or
A. Fontville. It is also believed that he painted a number of still
life paintings under the name Gustave Courtier.
His works are filled with light and color and were very popular during
his lifetime. Even today, they are among the most sought after works
by the artist.
De Breanski, Jr. exhibited several works at the Royal Society of
British Artists and the Royal Academy (RA) during his lifetime,
included among these were A Cottage Garden (1907, RA), Summer (1912,
RA), Willows (1914, RA) and Autumn Gold (1917, RA)."

Here are some of the sites I looked through trying to determine which
painting you have from the description you gave me:

"Printfinders.com - 150,000 Art Prints and Posters. One Store"

"Art Expression - Your one-stop source for fine art posters and
prints"
http://www.artexpression.com/byartist/Alfred_Jr._De_Breanski.htm

I had pointed you to this site during my clarifications which contains
numerous paintings by A.F. de Breanski Jr.
http://www.l-boro.demon.co.uk/breanski/junior.htm

Here are a few of A. F. de Breanski Jr's original paintings which can
be seen online with their value:

This one is called "Marigolds". It is 18" x 24" and framed in a heavy
ornate frame probably similar to the one you own. It is worth,
according to this site, $3,500.00
"Galleria Internet" "Rosalind Mikesell - Art Restoration and
Collector"
http://www.galleriainternet.com/galleria/collect/mikesell/mikesell.html

This next one is called "Sunset at an Old Mill" It is oil on canvas,
signed lower right, framed, and measuring 24" x 36". It was sold for
$2,645.00.
http://www.midwestauctiongalleries.com/past_auctions/may_art/17.html

At this site, there is a painting titled "Loch Shiel and the Hills of
Glenfinnan". It is oil on canvas, signed lower left, measuring 24" x
36". The rough estimate for this is $4000-$6000.
"Bill Hood & Sons Art & Antique Auctions"
http://www.hoodauction.com/march26/WebsiteFiles/Catalog_1____1___175.html

"Alfred Fontville de Breanski Jr. (British 1877-1945) “Highland Cattle
in a Loch” oil on canvas, signed “A. de Breanski”, 24”x36”.
Estimate...... $1,500-$2,000"
"Jackson's Auction - International Auctioneers and Appraisers of Fine
Arts and Antiques"
http://jacksonsauction.com/past_files/june_3rd.htm

There are quite a few appraisers online which you can contact and, for
a fee, they will be able to estimate the value of the paintings you
own. One such site is:
"Roughton Galleries"
http://www.crgalleries.com/estimates.html

Finally, as I told you, I received a reply from a notable Art
Gallery.
"Rehs Galleries, Inc"
http://www.rehs.com/alfred_de_breanski_jr_virtex.htm
The kind gentleman who assisted me with this gave me an estimate based
on other works of A.F. de Breanski Jr. Here are some email messages we
exchanged:

"Value of original oil painting and frame done by A de Breanski Jr,
Large piece called Beabach Nam-Bo Trossachs. The painting is 30" wide
x 20" high, and is in the original heavy frame which is approx. 6"
wide and very ornate. The picture actually has several highland cattle
in the scene, which I assume is to do with the cattle "rustling" or
"lifting" that occurred in this area and era."

Thank you for your e-mail, but without an image there is nothing I can
tell you.
Sincerely,
Howard L. Rehs

It appears the painting which I believed my customer had is not the
same as the one I thought. What I need to know is if I showed you a
URL of a print of one of Breanski's original paintings and the
identical frame my client has, would you will be
able to give me the approximate value of its worth. I also need to
know the minimum and maximum's of all Breanski's original works. In
other words, are the
values comparably different between one of Breanski's paintings and
another, or
are they all in the same region of value.
Signed

Does your client have a particular work they want valued or did they
once have a work that they now want to know what it would have been
worth? Also, I would need to see an image of the exact painting ...
not something like it. Each painting has a value and while many will
fall into a general price range, there are those works that are better
and those that are worse.
Let me know what else I can do.
Howard

My client does indeed have an original painting by Alfred Fontville de
Breanski, Jr. The title of it is "Beabach Nam-Bo Trossachs". After
searching over 90 links I have
not come across that particular piece. I have asked him to look at
some that are
very close to the description he gave me. The closest ones can be
found here: "Evening in Glen Finlas"
http://www.l-boro.demon.co.uk/breanski/db__31.htm
The frame in that one is the same frame his painting is in. Other
similar, but not exact ones to the one he has are: "Selkirk Glen"
http://www.artexpression.com/byimage/OWPM0875L.htm
and "Glencoe" found here:
http://www.l-boro.demon.co.uk/breanski/db__45.htm
Maybe if we got a price for these works, I can respond to him saying
his would most likely be in the
same region? This is where I need your help.
Signed

From those images I would think you are talking in the $4-$6,000
range.
Sincerely,
Howard L. Rehs

Please describe the dimensions of the painting (length & width). If a
North American vendor/dealer can not be found for your painting, would
you be interested in having a British or Scottish dealer try to sell
it for you? Jr's paintings are less valuable than Sr's paintings (and
there is a decreasing demand for them), but I'm guessing that you
could still probably get about $1,000-$2,000 for it, especially since
his landscape paintings are more popular in Scotland.

SINCERELY,
4keith-ga

Go ahead and post the info, as we don't seem to be able to find the original.
Thanks for the effort,
