The text you entered is missing the accent marks that are found in
Czech. Did you get this text from a particular page on the Web?
Perhaps one of us could translate the text from the original page.

Clarification of Question by pachyderm-ga on 27 May 2005 16:38 PDT
Thank you for the comments and request for clarification. I have an
old postcard that has this information typed on it. I could not type
the accent marks. It does not matter to me who translates the text.
I will still pay the Google Researcher even if it answered in the
comments.

Translation:

Educational and mutual support association Ilova

{ note: may be Ilova is miss-spelled 'of Iowa' - which had lot of
czech immigrants}

Esteemed brother/sister
 ( note:
this appelation bother/sister means: 'a fellow member of club Sokol', here)

Hereby you are requested to attend the extra-ordinary meeting, which
will take place Thursday. April 11th, 1940 in the Hall od American
Sokol, on the street
of 18th May.
Main point of agenda shall be to read {review} and resolve issues
which divided our association lately {during the last few years}.
You are requested to attend for sure. Beginning is at 7:30 pm sharp.
{ there is a miss-spelling here: veder should be vecer or 've?er' (if
we use caron=há?ek) which means pm in this context.

--------------------------
PS Sokol (as you probably know) was gymnastic association which played a role
in the national revival in the 'old country' and evolved into a ethnic support
group in US. It is still around, in both countries.

Hello, as native speakre I can translate this within few minutes. I'm
just not sure how to insert an answer, I'm new here and I see only
"add comment" button, the "add answer" button disappeared...

Ec1at4-ga,
You (and I) cannot post an answer. Only GA Researchers can do that
and earn the price, or post requests for clarification, as
Justaskscott-ga has done.
Researchers' user names appear in blue and are underlined.

If you want to post a comment with the translation, you certainly may.
If Pachyderm-ga is happy with it, he can cancel his question and save
his money, if he still wants it to be confirmed by a researcher or
someone else, he can post a comment or clarification asking for that.

Myoarin, thank you for explanation.

Pachyderm, I don't understand why you would pay GA-researcher if he
doesn't answer anything and even can't prove my answer. you better
save your money, there is nothing important nor interesting on that
postcard, just an invitation to the gathering of some "educational and
supporting association of ilova" where "main point on the schedule is
reading and deciding of former discrepancy of our association in few
last years" and "dear brother - sister - you are asked to come
surely". (I'm not sure what this is all about :o)

have a nice day,

Eclath
