The details of the inquest held into the death of his Honour, Peter
Thomas, J, that I have found are as follows, and may be confirmed by

Bristol Coroner's court was told that the judge died from multiple
injuries after falling down the stairs at his home. His Honour had not
been very stable on his feet since he suffered a stroke in 1998. The
article mentions that he was discovered by his mother in law at 07.30
on 17-07-02. Part of the stair banister had been pulled down, but it
is unclear what led to the fall, although the inquest did mention that
the judge suffered from heart disease. The court recorded a verdict of
accidental death.
A slightly more detailed account of the inquest, with some
biographical details, can be found at:

You may also wish to contact Bristol Coroner's Court to see if they
can make a transcript of the inquest available to you, although there
may be a charge for such a service. The court's contact details are:
Coroners Court

I hope this information helps.
