Hello everybody,
I am urgently looking for any source to buy one of the two following
books from a german scientist named "Adolph Zeising":
- Der goldene Schnitt (1884) [The golden section]
- Aesthetische Forschungen (1855) [Researches in aesthetics]
I have searched on www.eurobuch.com, www.alibris.com,
www.choosebooks.com and many, many other internet sources for used
books with no results ... even the biggest state libraries in germany
don't have these books.
My question is: Does anybody find a source to buy one of this books or
to get a copy of them?
Thanks for any hint!
Regards.

In what area are you located? Would a library in your area that has
these books, or can obtain these books via interlibrary loan, be a
sufficient answer?

I'm from Munich (Germany). The biggest library here is the "Bayerische
Staatsbibliothek" [Bavarian State Library]
(http://www.bsb-muenchen.de/) which does not have a single book from
Zeising ...
To answer your question: of course I would prefer to find a source to
buy this book. And there are a lot of booksellers around the net which
I certainly didn't see. So maybe someone succeds in finding an
address.
Nevertheless if an interlibrary loan would work here in Germany within
a reasonable amount of time I would of course also be lucky to try
this. Then the question would rather be in which library this books
are available. The problem is that most of this ancient books are only
available on micro films and to copy the whole book is very expensive
(even more than to buy it antique) and takes a lot of time.

One of the books seems to be part of a collection listed here:

http://webapp.uibk.ac.at/alo/cat/card.jsp?id=3505569&phys=start&pos=
(left column, about 1/3 way down the page)

though, as an English-only type of American, I'm not sure what the
collection is all about.

Let me know if this is a help at all, and if so, I'll continue
searching for the other as well.

First of all - thanks a lot to everybody who has searched and posted something!

@ pafalafa-ga
This is brilliant! The link you provided is an online library in
Austria which offers e-books on CD ROM. This is amazing. I already
ordered it. This is the perfect solution and answer. Thank you and as
I said in my question "... one of this books ..." the question is
completely answered! Congratulations pafalafa-ga.

I will post a new question for the other book and you and everybody
else is invited to find this one.

Best wishes from cythmadra-ga

cythmadra-ga,

What a happy surprise. I knew something unusual was going on at that
site, but I couldn't quite figure out what, so I'm glad it turned out
to hit the nail on the head, at least for one of your books. Be sure
to ask them if they can access the other one -- they may be willing to
make you an e-copy of that one as well.

Enjoy your new/old book!

Hi,
There does not seem to much consistancy about spelling Adolph or
Adolf, but that doesn't help.

But this site lists both books in the bibliography and provides an
email address to the author:

http://www.yorku.ca/christo/papers/goldrev3.htm

It also gives the publishers and cities (Frankfort = Frankfurt, of course).

Perhaps you can find other papers with bibliographies that suggest
where the books can be found.

Viel Glück!

The Library of Congress list these as in its collection:

Author: Zeising, Adolf, 1810-1876.

LC Call No.: BH193.Z36

Title: Neue lehre von proportionen des menschlichen
körpers aus einem bisher unerkannt gebliebenen,
Published: Leipzig, R. Weigel, 1854.
LC Call No.: NC765.Z4

Author: Herslow, Carl Christian Peter, 1836-

Hmm?
Then "Der goldene Schnitt" was published posthum, maybe a republishing of the 1854
"Neue lehre von proportionen des menschlichen körpers aus einem bisher
unerkannt gebliebenen ..." (title is incomplete, but can be found
elsewhere)

I believe the paper I found listed all three books in the
bibliography, so that author should know.

Just to point out, although your question has been answered by
pafalafa-ga, that the Universitätsbibliothek München has a copy of
"Ästhetische Forschungen"

Signatur: 0100/CC 6900 Z47

i.e. "Bibliothek Theologie - Philosophie / Freihandbestand"
