A quadrilateral has sides A, B, C, and D with the following
measurements:  A=4?, B=8?, C=15? and D=15.75?, with sides A and B
being parallel.  A line segment X is drawn from side D to side C which
is perpendicular to side D and divides side D into 2 segments
measuring 10.375? and 5.375?.  What is the length of segment X?

I have drawn your problem in a CAD program. There are two answers to
your problem depending on which end of "D" you work from. I have both
answers from the layout, but am not going to work the problem out in
trig/geom because I am too lazy. Do you want just the two answers.

Yeah the two answers will be fine.  The line is drawn closest to the side A.

Hello emcheck5, the length you are looking for is 5.54 inches. Too bad
I can't show you the layout. CAD made a fairly nasty problem very
easy.
