Here's hoping you can answer my question.

I need a definitive list of all hotels in England which have a MINIMUM
of 600 bedrooms.(Preferably with conference/convention space with a
capacity for over 500 delegates, but this is not essential.)

In terms of location, I will make the search easier by EXCLUDING
London and the south of England.

Ideally, the hotel will be in the 'Midlands' (cities such as
Manchester, Liverpool,Sheffield) and the 'North of England', (eg,
Newcastle, Leeds, Yorkshire etc)but not as far as Scotland.

I would prefer to have
EITHER
a list from you of all the hotels (over 600 bedrooms with conference
space)with their contact details
OR
maybe a link to this information. Please do not provide me with links
to hotel agencies in every town.

I look forward to an early response as this is an urgent requirement.
I must have this answer within 72 hours (3 days) or I will have to
cancel his request.

Thank you very much.

Alex,

This is turning out to be a tough one.

I can find only a handful of hotels outside of London that are as
large as what you need (and several of these are near Heathrow!):

Beyond that, I do not see any hotels with more than 600 rooms (other
than another 10 or so in London proper).

In all likeliehood, there are others in this size range, but very few
databases that I'm aware of actually allow for searching by size.

I can also provide you a link to a LARGE list of several hundred
hotels in England that have conference facilities -- these are in
London and elsewhere throughout England -- but there is no easy way to
distinguish large from small, except to walk through the list one by
one.

Does any of this help at all?

Let me know.

There are also some large-scale conference facilities at some
universities in England, and a few of these also metion large-scale
room availability.

For instance, the University of Bath can host conferences a thousand
or more people, and cites the availability of 1600 beds. They don't
offer much of a description of the facilities. However, I believe
these are combined availabilities from a number of individual units,
probably both on and off campus, though this is hard to verify. Would
that sort of set-up meet your needs?

Alex,

Any thoughts on the facilities I provided.

Normally, I would wait a while before pressing for some feedback, but
given your tight timeframe, I wanted to see if you had any thoughts on
these before I post a formal answer to your question.

Thanks,

Dear researcher

I thank you for your efforts which are truly appreciated however its
not really the answer we are looking for. The various links offered by
you are in Heathrow, close to London, south of England, whereas my
search is in the midlands to North of England, maybe some 500 miles
further north!

Also the couple of others you mentioned are educational instituations
and they are not appropiate venues for business conferences.

We came across the same problems you have and hence our question for
assistance here.

In all earnest, I guess my time is up in any event. Maybe you can help
us next time round!

Thank you so much anyway!

Whoa! Don't give up so fast. How about this one:

-----
Manchester Conference Centre and Hotel
Umist, Weston Building
Sackville Street, Manchester M1 3BB

The Manchester Conference Centre has very flexible facilities, whether
you need a small boardroom meeting, or a large-scale residential
conference. It's ideally located, just 250 yards from Piccadilly rail
station.

Facilities include a theatre for 500, three for 300, five for 140,
many of which are air-conditioned, and up to 2000 bedrooms, 750 of
which are en suite and 98 of which are fully-equipped hotel bedrooms.
-----

Does that suit? I may be able to find a few others?

Let me know.
