I just finished a CD called 'Indocelt'. Traditional music from
Ireland (fiddle harp , vocal, etc) and North Indian Classical Music
(Sitar, sarod, vocal, etc. now I am working on the album cover and
liner notes. I am looking for info on any historical connection
between the two countries. I met a guy from India in a pub in Ireland
once who said there was a photo in National Geographic of a statue of
Celtic God which was found in India and that 4,000 year old mumies
with Red hair were found in graves in the Indus valley. I'd be real
interested in seeing that photo or that article, or any image that
could express a connection between the two countries if there is one.

Hello declan-ga,

I've found several sites that discuss possible historic connections
between Ireland and India. I don't know if any of these are the
articles you're hoping to find. Please review them and tell me if they
provide a sufficient answer. I look forward to your clarification.

Hi Declan,

Pinkfreud's link looks good, or about as good as one could hope for,
whereby I think it is fair to point out that the article seems to be
mostly about Scotland, and the Celts were also once significant on the
continent. And as to a representation of "Celtic God", I don't know
how one would identify it as such, since there don't seem to be any in
Europe.

Anyway, about those mummies. I think the chap from Indian was being a
bit generous with his estimate of the extent of the Indus Valley. The
only mummies I found on the web or have heard about are those now in
the musuem in Urumchi in NW China. They are Caucasian (in the racial
sense, not necessarily from the Caucasus), and have light colored hair
 - i.e., definitely not black or brown - but the hair is not red like
that of really red-headed Irishman/woman.
These two links will tell you more.

This link will let you look at very many other sites on archeological
finds and subject, very interesting, but not any additional help on
your quest:

I hope the CD will be a success.
Good luck,
Myoarin

Ah, the Urumchi mummies. These are found in Chinese Turkestan (the far
northeastern corner of China), where genetic east and genetic west
really did meet.

Ah, the Urumchi mummies probably spoke an Indo-European language
called 'Tocharian'. Tocharian A and Tocharian B were deciphered by
comparing them to well known Buddhist texts (in Sanskrit, as I
recall). This is rather much how we know Gothic, in that we have the
Gothic Bible.

The mummies do look Irish, but come on, this is thousands of years and miles apart.

Ok It seems to me now that there is no historical connection between
Ireland and India. Well, that is usefull to know. I dont trust info
from websites of cults (Indian spiritual groups) and the English
language has a lot more in common with Sanskrit than Gaelic has.
