I am about to graduate with an undergraduate degree in finance and I am attempting to find a job within the transportation/logistics/distribution industry. Essentially, I am seeking an analyst position that will allow me to coordinate the structure of supply chain management. Since I have no direct experience in this category, I anticipate applying for entry level jobs that will eventually allow me to progress into this type of role. However, I have encountered difficulty in finding a reliable source for information on the "standard" career paths within this industry. Given the goal, where should I start? Relocation, starting salary, etc. are not significant issues, only the educational content of the job types and anticipated promotions/lateral movements given success. Any information that will assist in tailoring that path to international supply lines (with a focus on China) would be a bonus. I will pay an additional tip for every informational lead that proves useful along the lines of the lindstrom-ga model :) |

Have you considered KBR (the Halliburton subsidiary) in Iraq? They have hundreds of logistics/supply chain positions posted on their website. You'll probably get a higher-level position there than anythign entry-level in the States. At the same time, you'll get great on-the-ground experience dealing with pretty hectic logistics operations. The money is nice too... good pay, no taxes, no living expenses. |

financeeco-ga, I admit I had not considered this route, and although I am somewhat hesitant about being dropped into an effective war zone without knowledge of local culture, I will further investigate the possibility of working with companies with this type of government contract. I will contact KBR directly to make some preliminary inquiries, but do you have any thoughts on how working in this type of situation would transfer into a future career path? It seems that you have some personal experience. Thank you for your thoughts! |

Aidan, I was searching online for sites with the key words "entry level supply chain job China".... and came across your post. I am actually finding myself in the exact same position as you! As I was reading your post, I was almost suprised that I hadn't written it and just forgotten about it. Anyway, I would love to talk at some point, as it might be nice to help eachother out! I just graduated with a degree in int'l bus., transportation & logistics, and Chinese. I spent 3 months in China last year studying, and would love to get back there for a job... but am finding a lack of business experience making it quite hard. Like you I also have had trouble finding good advice and guidance. Feel free to email me at Ashley44022@aol.com - I probably won't check a response on this site. Good luck, Ashley |
