We have found a Web site, www.mediafinder.com/ and www.ulrichsweb.com, which both contain a database of extensive information on US and Canadian Periodicals and Publications. This site can be searched by a variety of methods, including industry type, geographical location, etc. We are looking for alternative Web sites that contain the same type of information. The database would include contact information, editors names, physical addresses, e-mails, and Web site information. Ideally, these publications would also accept press releases. |

NewsDirectory.com is a fairly extensive database that includes periodicals from most of the world in addition to North America. Also Gebbie Press's site (www.gebbieinc.com) is also quite large, but there is very little scholarly material. It's mostly popular multimedia stuff. One valuable resource I've used before is www.markovits.com/journalism/ It's a quick reference guide for journalists and educators, as well as scholars. You might also want to take a look at Plattsburgh.edu (mostly Canadian, some U.S.), and www.highbeam.com (they claim to have a database of over 30 million entries, from thousands of publications). Finally, I would suggest searching some sites from major universities and research institutions that spring to mind (you might have already thought of this). Often their libraries publish huge databases, often subject-specific, of just about every periodical that has ever been conceived. Hope this helps. Galactic Ployglot |
