I am a 30 year old software engineer in California who will be quitting his job in August to go back and study for an MBA. I will be paying $75000 as tuition in six equal installments over the next 2.5 years. I have the savings to pay for the program and for living expenses. My question is: I have not invested any money so far in a College Savings program. Given the short duration over which I plan to use my funds, is it advisable to put money into a 529 plan? If not, are there other avenues which can provide me with tax-breaks or atleast tax-deferred growth on these savings that will gradually go towards tuition over the next 30 months? |

It's $75k for California MBA tuition? Ouch. Not 1 hour ago I had a guy in my office who asked me how much Stanford tuition was; I threw out a guess of $45k. Wow, guess I need to revise my estimates a bit, as I am looking at getting an MBA in California myself soon. Cheers, -Dave |

Buy GOOG stock, don't look at the stock price for 2 1/2 year. After 2 1/2 years sell the GOOG position to pay off your loan in full, buy a new house and car, then keep the rest for living expenses. Good luck |
