I would like a phone contact number, preferably verified by the
Research by calling and confirming, for the web hosting company
unithosting (website at www dot unithosting dot net) My hosted site
has been down for four days, with no response at all to email or
support tickets, so I would like to find a live human to discuss this
with.

I have no phone number (there is no working number published) but I DO
have some revealing information. Would you like this information as an
answer instead?

Dear hailstorm-ga;

I?ll offer this to you and let you decide if it answers your question. How?s that?

Unfortunately there is no confirmed telephone number for UNITHOSTING.
Surprisingly you are not alone in your concern about this company.
There seems to be some heated discussion between others along this
same line of concern:

FREEWEBSPACE.NET

http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-52746.html

Here are some scathing reviews about the reportedly poor service and
lack of response when complaints are registered:

UNITHOSTING.NET REVIEW

http://www.webhostingstuff.com/comments/UNITHOSTINGNET-264.html

I cannot say if the company is legitimate or not, but generally
speaking, it might be advisable to avoid companies whose staff uses
ambiguous names such as ?Mike P.?, ?Joseph L.?, and ?Kevin H.? and
publicly lists no telephone number to their offices, sales departments
or technical support.

UNITHOSTING CONTACT
http://forum.unithosting.net/contact.php

Also, the fact that the company lists it?s own ?occupation? as ? Web
Host?er ? (note the incorrect spelling) suggests that the company may
be offshore or managed perhaps by non-English speaking persons. I?m
not suggesting that non-English speaking people are not trustworthy;
my point is that a company that fails to reveal necessary information
about itself, especially if located overseas and outside of the
jurisdiction of US law, might be questionable.

SITEOWNERFORUMS

Finally, many sites indicate that UNITHOSTING has no telephone support
or telephone number at all. However, (and sure enough) this strange
listing claims that the company is in Los Angeles, California but at
the same time lists an overseas telephone number: 00 64 (21) 2390020
for the company offices. I believe this is a number that was once
assigned to someone in New Zealand and what?s more, it may very well
have even been a mobile telephone number.

tutuzdad,

Thanks for your followup. Being a GAR myself, I am somewhat adept at
searching on the web, and have come across all of the links you
mentioned below. I have also managed to come to the conclusion that
they are a terrible provider on my own. The only thing I have not
been able to find is a verified phone contact, which is the only thing
that I will consider to be an answer to my question.

FWIW, support was actually quite good for the first six months, and I
felt I was getting my $6 a month worth from them. That they have
completely disappeared is unfortunate, but it's nothing I can't work
around by moving my backups to another, more reliable (and more
expensive) host that I work with. I'm really just interested in
talking with a person associated with them and finding out what
happened.

UNITHOSTING.NET, Inc.
5643 Wellesley St.
Los Angeles, CA 90189
987613454

Obviously not the right phone number. The area codes for Los Angeles
are 213 / 310 / 323 / 626 / 818 and Calabasas, a suburb of Los
Angeles, in 818. I did a search using variations of the area codes
and the phone number listed and came up empty.

5643 Wellesley St. Los Angeles, CA 90189 is not a valid address
according the United States Post Office. When I put the address in
Google, it comes up with an alternative:

5643 Wellesley Drive
Calabasas, CA 91302

If you Google map the location, the satellite image shows a
residential area, however, the United States Post Office says this is
an invalid address as well.

I looked up both addresses in my Accurint database and neither address
comes up. Nothing shows up for Wellesley Street in LA or Wellesley
Drive in Calabasas. I did a general search for Wellesley Avenue in
Los Angeles and the house number that came up were way out of range.

False address, phone number, etc?..very odd ? or perhaps not.

A search of the California Secretary of State Business Portal shows no
business name registered as Unithosting.net, Inc., Unit Hosting, or
any other variation. I also did a search under UNIT and came up with
many but nothing that would fit our ghost. Same with HOSTING.

I suggest, since they seem to be ?in hiding?, that you follow their
policy stated on their website:

?This Agreement shall be governed in all respects by California law
without regard to the conflict of law provisions thereof. Both parties
submit to personal jurisdiction in California. Any controversy or
claim arising out of, relating to or in connection with this
Agreement, or the breach thereof, shall be subject to arbitration
administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") in
accordance with its then existing Commercial Arbitration Rules
(collectively, the "AAA Rules") and judgment upon the award rendered
by the arbitrator may be entered in any court having jurisdiction
thereof. The place of arbitration shall be Los Angeles, California, or
any other place selected by mutual agreement of the parties. An award
rendered in connection with an arbitration pursuant to this Section
shall be final and binding upon the parties and the parties agree and
consent that the arbitral award shall be conclusive proof of the
validity of the determinations of the arbitrations set forth in the
award, and any judgment upon such an award may be entered and enforced
in any court of competent jurisdiction. The parties agree that the
award of the arbitral tribunal will be the sole and exclusive remedy
between them regarding any and all claims and counterclaims between
them with respect to the subject matter of the arbitrated dispute. The
parties hereby waive all in personam jurisdictional defenses in
connection with any arbitration hereunder or the enforcement of an
order or award rendered pursuant thereto. In any legal action, the
prevailing party will be entitled to recover all legal expenses
incurred in connection with the action, including but not limited to
its costs, both taxable and non-taxable, and reasonable attorney's
fees. The terms of this section shall survive any termination of this
Agreement.?

Additionally, they state that ?Any request for cancellation must be
received via the web, regular mail or fax and you will receive a
confirmation upon the cancellation of your account. Cancellations
over the telephone and informal email are not accepted.?

Sounds fishy to me!

I am afraid you may be out of luck but I will keep digging :)

Appreciate your diligence! If you do happen to find a working phone
number, I will reward you accordingly!

I was fortunate that I signed up with them with a Paypal monthly
subscription, since that gives me the power to cancel the subscription
without their assistance. I've already got my site hosted elsewhere
as well, so they won't be hurting me anymore. But as a matter of
pride, I still want to get ahold of somebody and give them a piece of
my mind!
