An Indian friend learned a Chinese exercise from her Indian yoga
teacher. The yoga teacher pronounced the name phonetically as
"swaitso." Can you reconstruct the Chinese name and point me to
information about the exercise?

As my friend described it, the exercise consists of standing with feet
parallel, shoulder-width apart, gripping the carpet with your toes in
a monkeylike way, and swinging the arms back and forth pendulum-style.
Actually you pull back with a jerk and then let the arms fall forward
naturally. You do this rapidly several hundred times. My friend says
she does 400 or 500 at a stretch and her Indonesian hair stylist does
1000.

Thank you,
