8XU is a file extension typically associated with the TI-83 Plus
Calculator Program (Texas Instruments, Inc.).

If you haven?t already downloaded the new OS software, you can find it at:

( http://education.ti.com/us/product/apps/83pos.html )

1.  Click on ?Download?.

2.  Choose ?Save? and find a destination on your computer to save too;
preferably a place you will remember :)

3. Click ?Save? again and it will download the program for you.

If you just double click on the program you downloaded, you will be
taken to a screen that says Windows cannot open this file. I am
betting when you did this, the radio button ?Use the web service to
find the appropriate program? was marked, thus leading you back to the
internet.

However, all you need to download the program to your calculator
correctly is a TIConnectivity cable and TI Connect? software. You can
purchase a connection kit so that you can transfer files to your
calculator, visit:

( http://education.ti.com/us/product/accessory/connectivity/features/features.html
)

To upgrade the operating system:

1. Make sure the TI-GRAPH LINK computer-to-device cable is connected
to the computer and the device.

2. Turn on the handheld device and go to the Home screen.

3. Locate the OS file for your device on your computer. The filenames
for the TI-83 Plus or TI-83 Plus Silver Edition OS file name
Base116.8xu

4. Right-click the OS file to open the shortcut menu.

5. Click Send To > Connected TI Device > Archive. When TI Connect
finds your device, the file transfer begins. A message appears to let
you know when the installation is complete.

6. Wait until the installation is complete before removing the
TI-GRAPH LINK? cable from either the computer or the device?s I/O
port.

There is a great Texas Instrument website that has many different
areas of help. You can view this site at:

The guidebook can be viewed at :

I hope that you have found this information useful. If anything needs
clarification before rating, please do not hesitate to ask!
