Simple question, hopefully there's a simple answer. This is driving me and the girls at work absolutely crazy. (We can't find an answer online.) Why are cops sometimes called 5-0? |

Dear leighannp-ga; Well, be crazy no more! 'Five O' is slang for police officers, originating from the TV show, ?Hawaii Five-0?. Hawaii is the 50th state, hence the nickname "5-0." URBAN DICTIONARY http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=five-o&r=d In the show, ?Five-0? was supposedly an elite unit of the Hawaii State Police who answered only to the Governor?s Office, but in truth there IS NO Hawaii State Police Agency and never has been. The municipal police agencies and jurisdictional Sheriff Departments of Hawaii are responsible for all primary law enforcement duties in that state. ?HAWAII FIVE-0: WHAT'S REAL & WHAT'S TV?? http://www.hawaiischoolreports.com/economy/hawaii50.htm THE QUICK HAWAII FIVE-O FAQ (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS) http://www.mjq.net/fiveo/quickfaq.htm I hope that answers your question. So, Five-O at the do? yo?..gotta go! Best regards; Tutuzdad-ga ?
