Simple question, but one I can't find an answer for:

How do I boost the gain of my microphone in Windows XP without
third-party software or hardware? And I mean beyond the 20db boost you
get from XP's Sound Properties. Is there some setting I can tweak or
registry branch I can hack?

My microphone is plugged directly into my sound card's mic jack (Audigy).

If it's impossible to do within Windows I will accept an answer that
points me to a freeware utility that can do it.

There is no answer at this time.
