In the sixties and fifties there was a sportcar with a snail as symbol
on the front of the car. I thaught it was Aston Martin, but I am not
sure and can not find it anymore. What car was it?

I also thought of the friendly yellow snail with the red shell on the
Sears x-cargo car top carriers.

Sorry it isn't. It was a metallic mark on the front of the car. I am
not sure it was only a snail or a snail with a jockey on it.

Could this be it? This particular example appears to be an ornamental
gas tank cap. It is an after market ornament, not as a factory part,
but as an accessory. I realize your car is not a 1920's vintage, but
I'm merely wondering if this is the "image" that you remember?

This art peice is dated 1925 and says "DEBON" on the side of it. It
may be a stretch but I'm wondering if perhaps this might be a gas cap
for the Magnat-Debon; a motorcycle that began manufacture in the early
20th century? This vehicle has a long a colorful history in European
motor sports and continues to be quite popular to this day. Is it
possible that someone (a previous owner or commemorative edition)
might have been paying homage to the Magnat-Debon and added the "logo"
to your car after the factory?

I haven't found any cars with the snail logo... but how about a
turtle? Is that slow enough? Actually the car I've found isn't slow at
all. It is capable of doing 140 mph! It is called the Gordon-Keeble
GT, and they were built in England during the early 1960's.

The Gordon-keeble owner's website is at: http://gordonkeeble.com/

If you look in the photos section, the turtle logo is very visible
below the hood seam. From their own site, and other I checked, the car
started out in the late 1950's as the Peerless GT, which evolved into
the Warwick GT, and finally became the Gordon-Keeble GT. The engine of
choice for these super fast cars was the same 327 cu. in. that was
used in the Corvette.

Could this be it?

I just came up with another possibility. Perhaps the snail logo was
not the manufacturer's logo... but an automobile leasing company's
logo. When I was looking up the words "snail" "logo" and "car", Google
came up with this company... Europcar. According to their history
page, they once used a snail as their logo. Here's the link:

http://www.europcar.co.uk/insideeuropcar/ourcompany.html

Seems that this company has constantly expanded and been accquired a
couple of times... first by Renault, and lastly by Volkswagen AG and
Wagon-Lits Group.

Too bad they don't display their old logo anywhere in their present
website, and I couldn't find one in an image search either.

Do any readers from across the Ocean have any recollection of what
this snail logo looked like? I'm here in the U.S.

Whoah... Now I've come up with the chrome plated "snail and jockey" at:

But this ornament could be attached to any vehicle... so no luck
there... but it does exist!
