Dear papsco-ga,

The information on how the name Deep Throat was first coined comes
from the book: All the President's Men by Carl Bernstein and Bob
Woodward. It is a humourous twist on the newspaper terminology ?deep
background?.

On page 71 they write,

"In newspaper terminology, this meant discussions were on ?deep
background.? Woodward explained the arrangement to managing editor
Howard Simons one day. He had taken to calling the source ?my friend,?
but Simons dubbed him ?deep throat,? the title of a celebrated
pornographic movie. The name stuck."

Click on this link and use amazon?s ?search inside? feature. Use the
search term ?deep throat? and click on the first reference to it.

I hope this answers your question. If it does not, or the answer is
unclear, then please ask for clarification of this research before
rating the answer. I shall respond to the clarification request as
soon as I receive it.
