I have a Instatrike on my Honda Shadow and the DMV would not let me take a road test with it on. How can I get my bike licence with it on? I would not have paid $3,000 for it had I know this. I am not strong enough to hold the bike up when it tilts. |

Hi, The problem is that a bike license allows you to ride a two-wheeler, so you must be tested on one. A couple of states, however, do have trike licenses, but I do not know if an instatrike necessarily is considered to be a trike. Washingtion: http://www.dol.wa.gov/ds/sidecarfaq.htm Delaware: http://www.docsharleypages.com/staftrik.htm And this site under "Old Business" seems to indicated that Minnesota does too: http://www.motorcyclesafety.state.mn.us/pages/mmsc_pages/minutes/mm_min11_18_99.html And this suggests that West Virginia is considering trike licenses: http://www.bikersrights.com/states/westvirginia/westvirginia.html This site suggests that in California one does not need a bike license to operate a trike, but this may not be the case for your vehicle: http://www.aeclassic.com/73rothtrike/ However, if your state has no trike license, although you may be able to get one in a neighboring state (using a friend's local address), to be legal you will have to have license from your own state. Although I can understand your being upset, the licensing controls are really in the interest of your own safety. Myoarin |

The problem is that Georgia does not recognize it as a motorcycle or trike. They told me to take it off if I want a licence. So would it even be legal to put it back on. I think the company making these should have disclosed it. |

The bike does not ride near as well with it on . I can ride the bike but I have health problems and I cannot hold it up if it suddenly tilts. I don't understand the purpose of this Instatrike if you can't licence it. Georgia does have a trike licence. |

Standsbydriver-ga, Thanks for the additional details. It sound like you should clarify if the state absolutely prohibits instatrike or just wants you to take the test without it. This site might have someone who could advise you, before you ask the state and get a flat answer: http://www.btw-ga.org/ If the state does prohibit instatrike, You could certainly ask the producer why it is selling in state that does now allow the product. An illegal modification of a motorvehicle is a more serious matter than supplying by mail-order something for purely private used that may be prohibited in the state. Good luck, Myoarin |

I found out after talking to everyone all the way to the top level, it is not legal in georgia. It is no longer a bike and it is not a trike. That also makes the tag on the bike illegal. |
