http://www.nature.com/news/2004/041122/pf/bioent838_pf.html 18 November 2004 Angel investors shy away from biotech Angel investors often avoid biotech startups because of long and costly development times of biotech products, as well as a tendency for venture capitalists (VCs) to set over-diluting terms when entering in follow-on financing rounds. These trends are exacerbating an early-stage funding gap in the biotech sector, which is unlikely to be remedied unless angels return to a disciplined form of collaboration with VCs when investing in seed-stage rounds. |

There are definitely resources to reach Angel investors and Venture Capital Funds that are looking to back biotech. Two great sources are: http://www.nvca.com/ and http://www.angelcapitalassociation.org/ Both the National Association of Venture Capitalists and the Angel Capital Association will help you aggregate targets for finding biotech investors. Also, you might want to try the FundingPost website and its two publications, one on Angel Investing: "How To Raise Your First Million Dollars" http://www.fundingpost.com/products/Item.asp?item_id=486&refer= and one on Venture Capital Investing: "What VC's Really Want 2005." http://www.fundingpost.com/products/Item.asp?refer=&item_id=487 Both books are conversations and interviews with investors and tell you if these investors are putting money into biotech. Between the two books you will have information about 55 investors, and I can assure you that a fair number of those, particularly the VCs, are still making biotech investments. Good luck to you. |
