The term/expression NGO (non-governmental organization) sometimes
looks a bit misleading to me because some receive assistance from
governments.

I am eager to get some examples of (socalled) NGOs who are sponsored
by governments - in part or maybe even in total.

It is mainly NGOs who offer assistance (of any kind) in developing
countries which would interest me.

There is the term "pongo", from "pseudo-NGO", or "quango", from
"quasi-NGO", to cover the sort of thing you're thinking of, though
this nomenclature has lost some of its currency. Many pongos are
loosely referred to simply as NGOs, perhaps because they sound more
serious that way. Would some examples of pongos make a good answer to
your question?

Leapinglizard,
Please go ahead as you suggest provided the NGOs (or socalled NGOs)
work with/in developing countries.
Which governments sponsor and which percentage of their budgets ?
Probably not possible to get in detail but indications would do.
NGOs associated with trade or investment would be of particular
interest, but that is not a condition.

In britain we have Quangos: Quasi- Autonomous Non-Governmental
organisations. These are usually executive agencies set up by
parliament that are not directly accountable to government or
parliament. There are many of these, but a couple of examples are the
Advertising Standards Authority, British Waterways, or English
Heritage.

I would be wary about the Advertising Standards Authority

Its full title is:
   Advertising Standards Authority Ltd.

It is closer to the Institute of Chartered Accountants, or the Law Society.

Self Regulatory Organizations.
