The term/expression NGO (non-governmental organization) sometimes looks a bit misleading to me because some receive assistance from governments. I am eager to get some examples of (socalled) NGOs who are sponsored by governments - in part or maybe even in total. It is mainly NGOs who offer assistance (of any kind) in developing countries which would interest me. | |

In britain we have Quangos: Quasi- Autonomous Non-Governmental organisations. These are usually executive agencies set up by parliament that are not directly accountable to government or parliament. There are many of these, but a couple of examples are the Advertising Standards Authority, British Waterways, or English Heritage. |

I would be wary about the Advertising Standards Authority Its full title is: Advertising Standards Authority Ltd. It is closer to the Institute of Chartered Accountants, or the Law Society. Self Regulatory Organizations. |
